Does the law state how many days you should give employees and who is considered by law the Family members are to grant leave for?

Bereavement leave varies by employer. And is often determined by the employee's relationship with the company.
School districts tend to only give excused absences for the death of a parent, grandparent or sibling. That's the basic allowance - parents/districts work out for other funerals.

Some companies allow funeral leave but charge it against personal leave days. While others allow the absence, but treat it as an unpaid leave day. Attending a funeral is a personal choice, not quite the same as breaking a leg or your child's surgery. Liberal leave policies are completely up to the employer. Exceeding the company standards and maintaining a good working relationship with your employer are the 2 most important factors when considering asking for time off.
