got a possibly infected western digital hard drive i want to install as slave. slave has win 98/me on it . will virus contaminate my current system [xp]. feel free to expound & thanx.

Yes, it will infect any hard drive in the entire computer. You'll have to unhook your main drive (the one with XP on it), and reformat the slave drive, before hooking the XP drive back up.

Browse through Yahoo Answers at any time of day or night and you'll see several recent questions similar to this one. Viruses are a very common problem with Windows PCs. So common that it should make you wonder why you keep your PC. Why don't you own a computer that doesn't have these problems? Don't be a masochist, switch!

Switch now and in a month or two you'll be wondering why you didn't switch sooner. Everything is easier on a Mac, and there are NO viruses. That's right: ZERO. I can't remember the last time I scanned for one (AV scanners are available for the Mac, but they only look for PC viruses!) and my system is as good today as the day I bought it.

If you are using winXP you can format the slave disk. It will erase all data in it including the virus. Possibly you could run a virus scan on it, and copy uninfected data to your hard disk before formatting.
