Can a man and a woman who have different perspectives on where life should go (where to live, what type of work to do, how to raise kids) stay together and make it? Will one of them ultimately have to sacrifice their dreams? Who should have to change their dreams--the man or the woman??
Any personal stories or examples are appreciated.

Marriage is compromise by both the husband and wife. Marriage is a partnership not a dictatorship.

Also the person you marry today will not be the same person 5 years from now. You need to grow and be tolerant of each other.

If you are both complete opposites, marriage will be very difficult.

You and your husband can't be the same person, so your ethics, perspectives, wants, fears, dream etc., are going to be different. The only way you can make a relationship work is if you want to. Relationships are give and take. Give on somethings that mean more to your spouse, and stand firm on the things that are really important to you. Life is a journey. Everything can't be roses, but you saw something in this person that made you want to take the journey with him, and it's important not to forget that. As you get older, your dreams change, and so do the things that are important to you.

I think both can have their dreams if they are willing. There will be lots of little and big sacrifices along the way though, but they'll eventually get where they want to be. I do wonder though if some people should have waited till they were in a better position in life and could better pick the one who would most complement them.

marriage is all about give and take. no two people are going to have the exact same dreams and plans for the future. it is not all ways easy for two people to decide who's dreams are more important and which path to take. someone all ways has to sacrifice. the question you have to ask yourself is do you love the person your with more than your dreams..................or on the flip side do thet love you more than there dreams. the key word is give flexiability.
i hope this helps you. i wood like to know the outcome of your situation.

Both people have to give 200% or he marriage will never work. It really is about give and take, and the wife needs to be submissive, and the husband grateful, both respecting of the other. No two people are exactly the same married or not.

Now for 20 years marriage I find that we always disagree to the main aspects and concerns (me and my husband) , we do'nt reach acompromise at all , he do'es what he decides concerning raisig kids(which is the big problem in our life) so I withdrawed long time ago. He earns money and has the power over our style of life although he does'nt practice this power to compulse me to do what I do'nt want to do. I need him , and he needs me because there are mutual benifits for each one . I think our life is ok .

If you don't have the same goals as a couple, you're going to have a hard time together. After 20 years of marriage, my husbands goals stayed the same, and I left him because he wouldn't give an inch! He assumed that his goals were my goals; and they were not! I figured that after all of that time, he was never going to change and we went our separate ways. It worked out well for us both. Godloveya.

No one should change their dreams. Say one of you wants kids and one doesnt thats a big issue. One of you will always be unhappy if you have to sacrifice your dreams.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
The very thought of you
Makes my heart sing
Like a soft gentle breeze
Blowing in the midst of spring.

Image

Like the touch of a rose
Just as soft as your kiss
As I sit here so quietly
And begin to reminisce.

Image

Lonely without you
Like a bird without song
Knowing your arms
Is where I belong.

Image

I see your face in flowers
Your eyes in stars above
Every thought of you tells me
I’m very much in love.

Image

Though happy or sad
Beside you I’ll stand
Walking by your side
While holding your hand.

Image

Praying that our love
Will remain a burning flame
The love I have for you
You will someday proclaim.

Image

You’re someone very special
I hold close to my heart
Never wanting our love to end
Never wanting for us to part.

Image

But, if in this lifetime
You say our love is through
You’ll find etched upon my heart
The words, “P.S. I Love You!”
