You want something people will have an opinion on -- but not something controversial or where people have made up their minds. For example, Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq would be a bad choice.

Here are some topics that I think would work:

1. Interleague play in major league baseball.

2. Survivor's decision to split tribes by race.

3. The decision of some top schools to eliminate Early Acceptance

The other route you could take is to give a purely informational speech on something that most people know nothing about -- but that you do know about. This is wide open -- and comvers everything from how to become a contestant on Jeopardy to how to build a dog house.

In my Speech class in college I did my speeches on: Origami, Dog Bites, and Maine Coons. If the speech can be any topic -- just choose anything you are interested in or know a lot about. We had people do speeches on basketball, hardwood floors, massage therapy, baking, just about everything.

If you're still stuck go to your professor for ideas. Good Luck!
