Well, she sounds like an overbearing controlling busybody (for lack of a better b word) to me.
She has no right to do this whatsoever and her son is an adult. I'm guessing his childhood was hell. I certainly would not tolerate such unacceptable behavior. I'd handle it in the following steps.
1) Talk to her son first, and see if he won't put his foot down. If he won't chances are she won't stop. (I might actually tell him it's her or me, but that's a tough choice and it depends how your relationship is)
2) If 1) fails, I'd go to her directly and tell her in no uncertain terms that I will prosecute if this continues..
3) If 2) fails, carry out the threat and prosecute. She has been warned. Too bad, so sad.

I would talk to her about it before you prosectue her, I am sure it is very irritating and I'm sure that you probably have bills and things in there to give her information about your financial situation which is a big no-no.
I would tell your fiancee' that you don't like it and speak to her as well and ask polietly if she could just give you the mail instead of opening it. If she gets uppity about it or refuses to listen to you, I would make a point of telling her that what she is doing is aganist federal law. I'm not sure that bringing that into the mix will go over well with your fiancee', so you could always rent a PO box at your local post office.

assuming you are all living together... try getting a P.O. box at the post office for more privacy. while the US mail is under federal regulation, there's not much you can do in your situation if you are all cohabitating. If you are not living together, go to the Post Master General office located at a post office near you. Tell the PMG what's going on and ask what your options are... good luck.

if you live with this woman, firstly you need to stop calling her names as she is providing you with a roof over your head.
second, if she is opening your mail and it goes to her house- she CAN open it. Is it moral- probably not but it is legal.
If you dont live with her and she is coming to YOUR house to open your mail, get a po box. Prosecuting her will land her in jail. Do you really want that for your fiance's family??

Write a letter to yourself and sign it from a friend. In the letter write 'have you asked your fiance's mum to stop opening your mail yet? That would get to me so bad! You'll have to do something soon if she doesn't stop'. That could well stop her! Good luck.

Keep peace in the family. Get a post office box. Are you living under her roof? If so I would seriously give consideration to moving.

I would at least threaten it first. Then absolutely call the local Post Master. Mail tampering is serious business no matter what your relation to the addressee.
Go Get Her!

prosecute...but before you wreck your marriage...consider a P.O. Box..they are cheap...and you can control the key.
Also...consider this to be a VERY BAD SIGN !!! you may be in for a rough time of it...good luck

Well you should try to talk to her first before you do. Tell her how much it bothers you. Tell her she needs to repsect your privacy. If this doesn't work then you can..but at least she will have a warning. I mean if you are going to marry her son you want to try to at least get along and not have any problems. But you need to communicate. That way if she doesn't stop its her own fault.
