I remember Pearl Jam trying to do it, but I don't think it was very successful. Ticketmaster just doesn't care about scalping as long as THEY get paid. Tickets to see Tool in D.C. on 9-30-06 started off at $55; right now they are close to $200 for crappy seats and up to $1000 for floor seats. Bands want fans to see them; what can they do to fix this problem, if anything?

The majority of the bands would have to boycott the beast and sadly, I doubt that would ever happen.

Hopefully for D.C. fans, Maynard is well again. He was sick for Houston.

I always thought that the band set a base price for the tickets and then ticketmaster of course would mark up that price in order to make a profit. And their markup just happens to be RIDICULOUS. Maybe that's not how it works, I don't know.
I understand your beef though, there are some ticket prices that are outrageous.

Words of advice:

Never buy tickets from ticketmaster or any other legalized SCALPER service like "Encore tickets". What a scam.

Always buy tickets from the venue's box office. They have better tickets and are more helpful in seat selection because they know the place inside out.

I think it could be explained in one word: Payola.

People just simply are not as wise as what they should be.
