Has anyone had any luck with getting out of their contract without paying the early term fee? What excuse did they accept??

The best excuse to use, is that you are moving overseas, and no longer need the phone, or that you are moving to a low coverage area. Do your research on the latter.

If you plan to depart Nextel where will you go if you still want cellular service? One is not better then the rest. If you no longer will use the system just hang out until the end of your contract them tell them to stuff it when it comes time to renew. That may give you satisfaction and use of their system for awhile. Or call into customer care and complain about the service every day. Pester the heck out of them. Or make a big scene at one or more of their stores when there's plenty of people in it. Good luck.

Pay the early termination fee.

Excuses used to work- but rarely do now. They've wisened up and require written, notarized proof of your excuse now.
