They come out in the dark simply because it's cool and damp
Worms dry up so they keep in the moist part of the soil to prevent this they also digest humus then bring it to the surface both aereating and (ploughing) the soil

They sense damp, and usually the water in the air condenses when it gets darker and colder, making the soil at the top damper. They also detect vibrations from the rain and go up to soak it up - that's why you see birds "dancing" on soil sometimes, trying to mimic rain.

cause theres no birds around to swipe them of course, and they come out for a little slither thinking they are safe, not knowing a 'fisher person' is about to nab them

I don't think they know it is dark as they have no eyes.........I think it is the damp atmosphere they sense........I may be wrong I am no expert...but I know worms are one of the most repulsive creatures on this planet........uuuukkkk.

They can sense light with their skin. They, of course, can't form images, but they can detect light.
