Does this mean it will work with a pay monthly contract sim from the network 3? I think this contact includes some wap services but I don't need to use these on the unlocked phone.

The phone doesnt do any 3G stuff. I'm looking to get a well old phone because the batteries last for ages and they are cheap. But does this mean I won't be able to make calls with my pay monthly sim card on the network 3?

You are confusing the issue up totally. Its like saying I fixed my sattelite decoder so can I apply for credit online..

..get it? no.. ok. if you were told that the phone will work on all networks, it means that any sim from any service provider will work. 3g is a type of phone, like a new model as apposed to an old model, it stands for 3rd generation. having a 3g phone has nothing to do with having it unblockes or using different service providers.

Network 3 with a GSM phone that is unlocked should work. If you have a GSM phone and would like to use it on a real 3G network won't happen. GreenEyedSista has it right. UMTS is the latest and greatest for speed. More speed with hsdpa will pass more information in the very near future. Example, putting ping-pong balls into a hose then increasing the size of the hose to fit basketballs through it. Same hose, larger size passing more data. Technology is a great thing, if you use it right.

3G is a technology that is UMTS, which is for faster data speeds and supports platforms such as video. GPRS is the GSM internet overlay. EDGE came after and is faster. UMTS is 3G and is the fastest. If you are not interested in 3G applications, you will not have a problem, as it does not affect the service you get in terms of signal strength. Older phones have a better battery life because among other things, they do not have color screens. Also UMTS has been released about 2 weeks ago in additional markets, but again, it does not matter if you are looking for an older phone. There are no old 3G phones, as the technology is new.

Yeah with the 3 network the phone also has to have certain extra capabilities. Even if its totally unlocked it might not be a proper 3G phone. A rough guide is that if the phone plays video clips (especially in 3gp format) then usually you're onto a winner.

The 3G Network is only being utilized in certain metropolitins. i.e. New-York, Miami, Atlanta. If you don't live in those areas your phone will ot work on th e 3G network, but rather the regular GSM netowrk.

I think 3 is the only network you will have trouble with. Everything else should work. I may be wrong.
