Been with my man for a while now and would like a ring for each of us but NOT symbolising engagement as no intention of marrying anyone again! Just wondered if there was something that showed commitment but not a symbol of marriage?

A partner an I got identical rings and worn them on the opposite hand to symbolize our commitment to each other. Yeah I know sounds a little cheesy but it was a nice thing to do.

A promise ring or friendship ring is a small, inexpensive ring given to a boyfriend or girlfriend, to promise to be committed in a serious relationship. These indicate that serious courting is under way.

A promise ring can be worn on any finger on the left or right hand, although ring fingers are far preferred. Most often it is the left ring finger, but due to engagement confusion, the right ring finger is finding acceptance in today's world.

Not as far as I know, but I'm sure people have exchanged rings of commitment under one name or the other, which would go beyond the friendship, but not to the point directly to engagement. Just a step up in the relationship.

Try a promise ring if you really feel the need for some kind of symbol.

Let's see.

There's a left hand ring, a promise ring, a freind-with-benefits ring, a pinky ring, a signet ring, a "I just want to be freinds" ring, a thumb ring, a mood ring, and a bathtub ring. One of those would do it.

By the way, any ring will suit any of those purposes (except the bathtub ring). Just buy a ring and call it what you want. It works for the advertising agencies.

I gave my boyfriend a "promise" ring. It means I'm his and only his. Someday we will marry but that ring just symbolizes that we are not going to be dating any one else.

You could get each other promise rings. they will symbolize your love for each other, and they mean that you promise each other that you are his and he is yours and you will treat each other right. but you still wear them on your left ring finger.

What do you need a ring for then? That's just material.
