I am doing a project about emotions and I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that sybolizes sadness. It could be a phrase, such as "proud as a peacock" or just a flower, bird, ect. Depressed would also work. So basically if you know of anything that is sad or depressing that is an item that could symbolize it, that would really help me. Plus you get points for answering so...

Back in the day, if someone wanted to know why you were sad, they would ask: Why the long face? But maybe that ain't what you are looking for. Rain symbolizes sadness.

For depression: Having the world on your shoulders

I would go to google then click on images, and search under the word sadness. One example of what I got when I did it was
