I have an 85 f-150 4x4 300 6 cyl.The motor is shot and was wondering if there is a v-8 that would bolt up to everything in its place, or if motor mounts transmission and all would have to be changed? So I guess my main question would be,should I look for another 300 straight 6 or move up to a v-8? Thanks

For ease of changing out, I'd stick with the straight 6. In my opinion, that was one of the best motors Ford ever made. As far as swapping a V-8 is concerned, your transmission will bolt up, but you will need new V-8 motor mounts, a complete V-8 (to include the ignition system), and possibly a new radiator. Hope this helps!

I know a friend that puts small block 350 chevy motors in S10 size pick ups & all he has to do is flip the motor mounts up side down & backwards or something & cut a little out of the fire wall & it all fits in there, but it's difficult to change the oil & it can easly twist the rear axel off the truck & does it go fast whoooosh what was that, it goes so fast people will hardly see you go bye @ high speeds.

A 302 or 351 will bolt to your transmission. you will need differeent motormounts, Starter, ignition control module, and a few other Misc. But, the 300's are great motors with a bit better fuel economy and plenty of power for a daily driver or work truck.

You should get a newer truck. Used vehicles are practically free now. This is because cars don't wear out like they did in the 70s and 80s but people still want new ones. Your truck is worth less than the engine or the time it takes to put one in.

Buy yourself a short block 300 from the part store. I have trouble understanding how you wore out the other. Now if you have problems with valves, buy a long block to ensure no further problems. See if you can special order with metal timing set to eliminate the fiber cam gear. Good luck.

Stick with the 300. They are a very good engine.

Keep the six banger. With gas prices what they are today it doesn't make sense to drop in a V8 unless you're a hot rodder at heart and don't care how much gas costs.

Is it worth YOUR time to change a bunch of lines, hoses, wires, mounts, radiator, fan shroud, exhaust just to get a little more power?

It's all up to you......
