It is illegal, very illegal. Go to HIPAA.com or any other of a million websites dedicated to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act. you will find how the law is broken down. I was in health care for several years and remember when this law first came out. This ranges from children blocking parents from medical records to those who can no longer be held responsible for themselves. She is not related, the nurse knew this, she handed the records over, you have a lawsuit they cannot win. Contact the ombudsman and move on from there. Contact a lawyer who knows this law.

VERY ILLEGAL!
You have to authorize the release of the records and if you didn't, then it puts the nurse and her/his employer at risk of a lawsuit.
I'd tell the doctor what happened and inform him that you're less than happy with it, and see if he takes any action.
And I'd defiantly tell the nurse that she's up for a report to the medical board.

Yes it is. The x should just find out where the Dr. hangs out and buddy up with him. Buy him some drinks, the Dr. will give the records to the x and eliminate the middle nurse.

It's totally not legal or professional. That nurse could be deregistered if found out. Patient confidentiality is the utmost importance. I know as I am a nurse.
I would investigate this further, because there shouldn't be nurses like them in this world. People like them give nurses a bad name.

That would be unethical and illegal. There are confidentiality rules that govern the handling of medical records. No one can provide information about you without you signing a release of information.

Depends on who the X is. Assuming its not an insurance company, etc, with a legitimate need for the records, then yes, its illegal.

It's illegal. Just make sure you don't have that person still listed as a contact for you or next of kin with your records.

If you signed that they could give your records to an insurance company or employer, no it is not illegal.
If she gave them to anyone else, yes, it is illegal
