my ignition switch went bad on my 71 chevy pu?

i need to get to work today and im going to have to bypass the switch but i never had to do this . do i run a wire to the starter the alt. and the battery?

If you have power to the truck when you turn the ignition switch on, you should be able to jump across the terminals of the solenoid to get the truck to start. If you don't have power at all, you're screwed. You'll need to find some other sort of transportation to make it to work today if that is the case.

You will need to run a constant hot to the points and then jump the starter selinoid. Make sure it's out of gear and chocked. Good luck.
