E. coli can respire with a number of substrates as the terminal electron acceptor, not just oxygen.

Be careful about the use of anaerobic bacteria in your answer, as bacteria that carry out fermentation (eg Clostridia) are not respiring.

The website I link to has some information that might be good to read over, it might also specify some more bacteria.
