Just for Thomas to come on to the point that he is legitimately in the conversation is quite an achievement. I agree with the opinion that what he has achieved, for sure, includes:
> Leading his team to the Al West title, and some good revenge head-to-head v. the White Sox in the process.
> Possible Comeback Player of the Year award
> Erasing any doubt that he will be int eh HOF
> Probably being in the Top 5 or 6 in the MVP vote, along w/ Jeter, Morneau, Dye, Ortiz and maybe Santana.

You said this month. Why don't we just give out awards for monthly performances. Well, I guess Liriano would win since he's what, like 8-0 since the All_star break while leading strikeouts. No, how about Justin Morneau, who has pretty much done the same stuff over 2-3 complete months!!!
You said it in your question when you said "After struggling at the plate in April AND May..."
2 months where he did absolutely NOTHING. That's about 40+ games right there, and you want to give him MVP for hitting 10 homers and 26 RBIs in a 1-month showcase.
Forget it man, you need to put down that pipe.

Frank should be considered in the MVP debate. He has had a hellavu month and if he stays hot, he will have to be considered a strong contender for MVP. Jeter appears to be the frontrunner right now, but who knows if the unexpected happens and the Yankees lose early in the playoffs. You have a good point saying the Yankees would probably make the playoffs without Jeter. He has had a terrific year without a doubt, but the Yankees have so much talent I really think they would be fine if Jeter was not in the lineup. He adds a lot, but without him I still think the Yankees have plenty of talent.

ok lets see he's batting 280 with 38 homeruns and 105 RBI and you want him to win the MVP. David Ortiz is batting 283 with 49 homeruns and 129 RBI Jim Thome is batting 285 with 39 home run and 100 RBI Travis Hafner is batting 308 with 42 home runs and 117 RBI JErmaine Dye is batting 322 with 42 home runs and 117 RBI so anyone of those guy is having a better year then Frank Thomas with Power numbers alone. not to mention they have a way better batting average. I personally would like to see Derek Jeter win it, because he is the best leader on any team, he make you wish you had a player like him on your team. and I'm not a Yankees fan and I want him on my team

Frank Thomas is a DH--he shouldnt win unless he gets 60+ homeruns or 150+ RBI b/c as a DH, any DH only impacts 35% of any given game. Since they dont play defense thats 50% of every game plus a DH doesnt bat every inning so we're looking at like 35% of any game at best. Thats if they get a hit every time up. So Jason Maurnau, Jermaine Dye or Derek Jeter

Thomas definetly should be a candidate but i still wouldt give it too him. Jeter has been consistent all year long, and Thomas has just now gotten hot. Again the DH factor hurts him and his numbers arent close to Ortiz'

I think he deserves to be in the top 3 myself. However he will probably not get more votes than Dye or Jeter. He will probably beat Ortiz though. Comeback player of the year, a place in the post season, and a ticket to the guaranteed ticket to the H.O.F will have to suffice. Don't think he will feel to sad, do you?.

Thomas is another Designated Hitter.
If you're gonna give the MVP to a DH... you give it to David Ortiz... who plays the same position with FAR superior numbers.
I agree with you that Thomas has been big for the A's... but the prime reason he won't garner real consideration is that he doesn't play a defensive position.

Yeah, if the MVP leads the league in crying, Frank would be the man.
