some cultures burn their dead. It's just the way our society believes is the humane way. Personally I will be buried in my town cemetary. It gives us a way to mourn our loved ones. something to "do" in a situation we can do nothing. There is also the sanitary factor. We dont' want animals running off with our loved ones arm in their mouth.

Muslims cremate dead bodies because:
1. Components of human body present in the soil
2. No Pollution
3. Surrounding land becomes fertile
4. Economical
5. Same land can be utilised for burying another body

It's a stupid thing to do, unless you do it without all the fanciness. Then again it's just a gesture of appreciation I suppose, never letting go, denial and in some part of our minds holding onto the possibility that our dear departed loved one will do be reawaken like Christ.
Then again who wants zombies? I say cremation is the best disposal. However buried remains help forensic investigators all the time too.

Those who believe the corpses will somehow resurrect some day bury them and put them in tombs, like Christians or the ancient Egypt. Some others like the Buddhist who don't hold such belief burn the bodies. If you're suggesting eating them or something the reason why no one does that should be quite a matter of common sense.

I completley agree. I understand that they are making plans to bury folk in plots 6 people deep to save on space. It makes sense when you think about it, but what would make better sense would be all out cremation. Most graveyards / necropolis are full of dead folk nobody even remembers or visits.

But then where else can we put them, Some people don't beleve in being cremated and we have to respect that and besides their not scattered all over ur back yard so don't worry about that, Besides what would u want to be done to the people that u love and have past away.

Hindus don't bury their dead. Many Americans no longer bury their dead. Venetians don't actually bury their dead either.

I don't think I'd really appriciate the smell from rotting corpses in the streets. Plus, think of how unhygenic it is.
Sure you could burn them, or bury them... but something *has* to be done with them. It's just easier (emotionally) to bury, and easier (in costs) to burn. And sending them out to sea isn't necessarily a good idea, either, as bodies tend to drift, and wash up on shore as a bloated corpse or hideous skeleton.

As the joke goes...
"Do you want to be buried or cremated?"
"I don't know...surprise me!"
