ok do this normally you would want to download adaware SE and spybot search and destroy, bazooka and any other free spyware programs you can find, from download.com for instance. All except spy doctor..way to strong and can delete system files if you don't know which ones to click off.

But anyways I think i can help. Go to your start menu, and select
prgrams, then go to accsessorys, then go to system tools. You will see program called system restore. This can be a miracle when a computer is acting up. What you will do is click that and follow directions to restor your computer to how it might have been running at a previous day. Say mybe a week earlier, or even a month. Youll see how. Once picked this should do the fix. Even if runs ok, don't let it fool you. Could still have viruses/spyware so download the programs asap. Take care and good luck

You did not say what this trojan or spyware infecting your computer were. Did your antispyware software find anything and if so what was it.? If you cannot download any other spyware software from the net then you may have to format your drive and start again. go to www.housecall.antivirus.com/housecall and try them.
Remember If you are using XP and do get it removed it could still be in your restore folder so make sure you remove it from there as well
When you do get it removed install a good firewall, virus checker and spy software and keep them updated.

You need to run a virus scan and if you can download AVG is a free version that is good. Also, Sybot Search and Destroy is a good free anti-spy program. If you can't download anything you can get a disc in the store of virus protection or spy-ware. If all else fails you may have to reformat the computer. I have had this happen to me several times. Hope it goes well for you.

Trying to fix a tainted system is a lost cause. Start over again:

1. Back up all the data you want to save onto CD or DVD. *DO* *NOT* back up any installed software, and only save install programs that can be verified as clean of spyware and adware.

2. Some spyware is built to use the boot sector. Deleting the OS is not enough, and reformatting the hard drive is not enough. Use FDISK and delete ALL partitions so that nothing can be rewritten or recovered. Then after creating new partitions, use
> FDISK /mbr
to clear the master boot record.

3. Reinstall the OS and system software. Use ONLY software that can be verified as clean.

4. *DO* *NOT* install programs with spyware. Spyware didn't infect your computer by itself, *YOU* put it there. It happened because you installed programs containing spyware like Kazaa and other "free" or piracy-based programs. How do you think these programs get built "for free"? They recoup the money from the spyware makers.

How to detect and prevent spyware:

1. READ THE AGREEMENT ON INSTALLATION. Many "free" programs say in their "licensing agreement" that they install advertising, and if _you_ install the program, you install adware. They're expecting you to be stupid and not read, expecting you to click "yes" to everything. If it says it installs spyware, DON'T use it.

2. Search for websites that keep lists of spyware. People who find programs containing spyware report them to such sites. The lists are large and up to date because other people are also pissed off about spyware.

3. Only download "free" software from sites like Sourceforge, Freebyte and certain others. Reputable sites refuse to list any freeware if it contains spyware. When Sourceforge says it's free, it's free in _every_ sense: free of cost, and free of spyware.

4. STOP TRYING TO GET FREE AND PIRATED STUFF. Why do people keep thinking they're going to get something for nothing? TANSTAAFL, as Philip K. Dick used to say....

One of the worst recent cases of spyware and adware was the "Left Behing" game made by a fundamentalist christian group. The program was ridden with spyware, much of it leading to pornographic and viagra-selling websites.

Their commercial game (not free) lets the player be a "christian warrior" killing off "muslim terrorists", atheists, and other people, glorifying murder and violence and calling it "holy". It's just more proof that "christian morality" is a lie.

Left behind...is that another way of saying "half assed"?

Boot into safe mode and try running your anti-spyware program.

If this doesn't work. Boot into safe mode with networking and download something to remove it. I'd check at http://www.download.com

Download portable Firefox, if you can't do it on your PC then use your friends and put it on a USB stick. Then transfer it to your desktop and use it to download protection for your computer.
(You don't install portable Firefox, just use it right off the desktop)

Try forcefully ending any suspicious process using task manager(Use Ctr+Alt+Del). When your comp is idle, lookout for procesesses that has CPU time greater than 0(except for the System idle process). then you can use your antispyware.
