I, personally, couldn't abide them. They gave me headaches, and I felt like a bobble-head doll as I desperately moved my head around trying to focus on subjects at various distances. The optometrist said: "give it a few months - wear them all the time and you'll get the hang of it." It did not happen. I learned to take them off (just as I had with my "normal" glasses) whenever I wanted to look at something within arm's reach. I eventually laid them down somewhere and didn't pick them up - and they were forever lost (albeit unlamented). An expensive lesson, but good riddance to bad rubbish.

To be fair, I've never worn traditional bi-focals, but I cannot believe they could possibly be as maddening as the varifocals were. My solution has been smaller-lensed frames, which I can actually look beneath to see nearby things clearly. It still works for me, and with none of the drama.

Best of luck to you!

If you have a good optician then you will have no trouble once you have got used to the different way of looking and focusing on objects near or far. If he has done his job properly and has measured the positions of the varying spots on the lens well, you will have no problem.
The worst part is when you come to read as you will need to move your head from side to side to keep the point you are reading in focus. The movement is very very slight and in time you do it without knowing.
Best change I have made and wish I had made the change years ago.
