It requires self discipline and faith, both of which are in short supply in most folks. It takes less effort not to believe and not to discipline yourself. It also isn't currently in vogue. The paybacks aren't instantaneous, and you don't get to do what you please when you please. It's an inconvenience that won't allow you to be selfish, self-centered, and irresponsible without facing the consequences. It can be a serious crimp on Sunday morning sleep ins. Being a Christian means having to put up with folks who feel free to make offensive remarks regarding your beliefs in the misguided belief they are somehow superior to you. Christianity also establishes a goal of perfection in living and behaving that is difficult if not impossible for the majority of folks to attain, and the bar won't get adjusted downward so more people can or will be willing to try. In short, Christianity takes more effort than most people are willing to put out, even for themselves.
