ive just moved into a rented property with my boyfriend and we need a telephone line and internet. we have a landline but are not actually connected.

im looking to get a good deal on internet and telephone packages with one servier. i have just phoned NTL and they have quoted me £30.50 a month for unlimited 2MB broadband internet and Phoneline with free evening and weekend calls to any national landline (all installation and modem free). Would you say this is a fair deal or am i getting ripped off and also are NTL any good? i just want to make sure NTL are a good provider to go with and that they have good reccomendations before i sign up to a 12month contract with them.

i would never recommend ntl, as i used them for 2 years and had continual problems, so i decided to go back to bt and sky. when i cancelled my contract they still kept billing me and it took 6 months to get it sorted (oh and in that time they had collected my tvbox). they only sorted it when i got watch dog involved

It does depend how lucky you are in all honesty. You’ll see many bad comments as you will good. When it’s good, it’s great, when it’s bad it’s a whole lot of hassle.

If you talk about internet reliability it’s 100%, very, very few down times, and if it is down it’s most likely listed on the maintenance paged and long it’s expected. 2mb is a good speed, not fantastic but average. If you need upload it’s not the most fantastic speed, although it’s a residential speed and no home-owner could really need a lot. It’s 20KB/s .

TV service is average in my opinion, I haven’t done the 3 for 30 deal but I assume it’s the basic package, which in honesty, you might as well buy a FreeView box.

Telephone I’ve never used, my Nan has the phone, she’s not complained about it, so at the very basic level it’s standard.

However, that said. If anything ever goes wrong don’t expect NTL to be there for you, and be prepared to fight for everything.

There’s an independent website set up from employers of NTL who volunteer their knowledge and most of the time will go out of their way to help you, I’ve opted to go to the website before NTL because honestly, they’re a lot more helpful, though it’s sad when that’s the best way for you to get advice.

For me; it's been great. No compliants.

Hello: I have been with telewest/NTL for 7 years and never had any major issues. The price you have if it includes a TV package then it is good. We have the 2mb broadband and it is very good. I have changed mine to wireless and unlike with BT you dont need filters etc etc and again unlike any other company if there is an issue with telephone or b/b then it is all in house. Take for example wanadoo/orange. If you have an issue with that and phone orange, they will tell you its the line which is BT, you phone BT and they say it is the exchange and orange etc etc. At least with telewest/ntl it is all owned and operated by 1 firm and problems sorted straight away. I would recomend them. Plus added bonus unlimited download .. no limit ike the others that say they are free but only give you 2 g/b and download speen lucky to be 1m/b.. go for it so long as they have tv included

I used to have NTL, then cancelled because their customer service is lousy and the package I had was expensive. I switched to Homechoice, which was fantastic in terms of cost, offering (which took a little while to get used to but which included broadband) and customer service. Due to technical problems I reluctantly had to leave Homechoice and returned to NTL - they are CRAP! You make an appointment for a site visit (and you are only given a morning or afternoon slot, never a 2-hour slot), and very often they arbitrarily change it without notifying you, so if you don't ring to confirm the day before you risk waiting for the engineer though the date has been changed; you can't speak directly to customer complaints (you have to write in - probably because they'd be indundated by angry "customers"), and the offering isn't good. The only reason I went back to NTL is because the website promised a Homechoice style of programmes (ie. being able to watch reruns of selected past week's programmes) - but when I got an engineer to install this (the appointment of course had been rearranged without telling me), he said this services isn't available

Be very careful about choosing NTL!!!

I am connected to NTL and that is not by choice. It is the only service in my area. I signed up for a £30.00 deal TV package, Broadband and telephone. Got the TV, but the telephone service and therefore Broadband were not available therefore I only had the TV package, now the £30.00 dont give you many channels so therefore upgraded to the next package. Now because I dont pay by direct debit my monthly bill comes in at £54.00 I get my bill on about the 12th of each month. If they have not received payment by the 15th, I get a £10.00 fine on my next bill........Then if you havent paid by the 15th, you get your service suspended, then they charge you another £10 to re-connect. I hate them, and the sooner sky comes to my area the better. Sorry for the negativity....but i really cant think of anything good to say.....oh and the channels stick constantly when your trying to change channel...and the information regarding what programme is on only works £40% of the time......

I disagree. I am with telewest(ntl) and the broadband is excellent.
I would say it sounds a bit expensive to me. Pretty sure i pay about 25 quid a month for 16mb and phone line. Only disadvantage is that you are kinda limited if you want to change your phone or broadband provider as it would mean going back to a BT line which will cost you to re-connect.

Personally I think they're ok but not brilliant. Their customer service can leave a lot to be desired at times. Having said that you do get some really good deals with them and I've had them for the last 3 years for phone and broadband and never had a problem with them. I think you might want to check with them again though on the price as they do advertise telephone broadband AND tv for £30 usually.

I have the same deal with NTL and I think they are pretty good. They also offer a good TV package with this deal and around 30 extra channels for around £9 per month more

Why is everyone so negative about ntl i'm with them and think they are great you can get such goos deals- i wouldn't go with bt they are expensive. Ntl is good and havn't had one problem with them- call them and see if you can get a different package for cheaper though as there are quite a few!
Good luck and hope you choose wisely!

I have the same package that you've mentioned. The broadband is excellent, t.v is a nightmare! It freezes all the time, channels disapear and it costs a fortune to ring them to sort it out. I had a bill last month with extra charges for phone packages that I hadn't asked for! Don't touch them, there must be a better company out there, even if it's a bit dearer each month. I can't wait for my contract with them to end.
