Norton Internet Security does not look for files that are simply tracking cookies and other inactive adware files. Ad-aware clears out alot more junk, but most of this is harmless. I also recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get the free version of SpyBot Search & Destroy. This looks through your Registry and clears out other spyware and adware entries that Norton would leave behind. (Ad-aware does not look through registry entries)

Ok heres the deal. I have a computer tech. friend certified and everything. And basically norton sucks balls. In some of their previous editions their software would actually contain not only spyware, but also a ''corporate virus'' as it was knows. Which i guess was some jacked code that made some interface run bad which in turn jack up areas of computers. Now with the newer progs. still spyware, and just plain weak.
Why can japanese cars run for 200,000 miles and WAY more and american cars fall apart sometimes at 100,000 miles. Some types are just way better. What you need is this. Adaware is great. Just also get Spybot search and destroy also. And go to download.com and get some other free ones. Just DO NOT get the spy doctor. It will sometimes delete system files jacking up your computer. =/. Do this. Go to your local Office max or the like and look for the 3 pk of cd's mcafee so generously gives out, unlike norton. Buy mcafee firewall, quick clean, and virus scanner. Can pick the 3pk up for about 35 bucks or so. Compare that to just one cd that norton gives you, and mcafee better. Do your norton scan sometime, then go to this site and do a free mcafee scan sometime. It won't delete them for you, but at least may let you know you got some problems on the computer.

Norton Internet Security and Norton Anti-Virus are primarily for viruses, trojans and worms. These are not designed to detect and clean malwares, spywares and other forms of data-mining programs.

Ad-Aware SE is designed do just that--detect and remove malwares, adwares, spywares and data-mining and dial-back cookies.

So, what you have is NIS for active attacks and infections from the Internet, NAV for virus infections and script-code executions, and Ad-Aware SE for the rest. You are relatively well-secured, AS LONG AS THESE PROGRAMS ARE REGULARLY UPDATED.

But... you can also add Spybot Search and Destroy to look for those other malwares and adwares that even Ad-Aware SE might miss. And Ewido, too.
