Care for her husband is failing with her depression from her worrying about moving 200 miles to closer to people who care about her. She doesn't want to take depression drugs because she thinks it will cause her to commit suicide. Otherwise she is still killing herself anyway. She doesn't eat because of this and her husband doesn't get cared for.

It's difficult for older people to move. Sometimes they feel they are a burden to those around them. There is a solution. There are agencies out there that provide assistance to the elderly. Depending on their needs, they could have someone come in to prepare meals, house-keep, make sure they get to Dr. appointments, etc. Contact the Social Security department where they live and see what can be done.

well I dont think it is necessarily a good thing- I do understand your concerns-BUT does she have friends in the area you would like to see her move to-- other than family that is;
she does need to talk to a trusted doctor about the effects of anti-depressant medications.
Is her husband generally in good health & can care for himself?
Maybe you need to discuss things with her husband.
partly she would be hestitant to move to new surroundings as everything would be unfamiliar to her & it is a HUGE step at that age.
is there any system in place in her area where she can meals delivered to her at home - she may be more inclined to eat if she doesn't have to prepare the meal first- also what about home nursing care??
200miles is NOT that far away for you to visit her regularly anyhow

probably not a definitive answer - but some things for you to think about

Hmmm; that's a tough one, because ultimately she's the one who needs to make the decision. I guess it would depend on what her motivation would be for moving/ not moving. After a while, even though it may be tough, you may have to just let the issue go if she's not willing to make a move, and perhaps the family members could check in on her & her husband from time to time.
