I use the DVD Recorders from Sony. I can convet the tapes to DVD without using computer and also can use the DVD writer with computer. Already using this like over a year.

sailor266... you can transfer your VHS to DVD by using a recode software or if you have TV card then plug your VHS in the Aerial socket and play your VHS. One it starts then use your TV card to capture your VHS. Once done then using Nero or any other software burn it on DVD as MPEG MOVIE
