I guess I can bare the existence of NATO. But am I the only one who thinks the UN is quite useless? Concerning Iran they have accomplished nothing, only using "talk" and "diplomacy" to give Iran time, or just to waste time. Concerning Sudan, they dont even have the authority to go into Sudan to "help" situation because the leader wont allow them. Now they send a few troops here and there to Lebanon on patrol, but if Israel wanted it could still attac again, especially since the French made it clear that they are not there to fight. What exactly does the UN accomplish besides the repeated allegations of conspiracy from Kofi Annan?

when one of the key nations that pushed for it's formation walks away and tries to use it as a lap dog to pass resolutions until they match US intent, I would say it would seem useless

the UN stands for human rights and the US opposes that.

consider what the US used to stand for and ask yourself why you are putting baited questions that smack of a dittohead, people repeating things they don't understand or havn't been around to see the history unfold (less than 40 years old)

if other nations don't allow help, there should be no nation that can force it's will especially without world approval or trying to pass off it's coalition as a 'willing' group that immediately set up shop and started piping out oil

one by one any major country that was mislead like the citizens of US by Bush and Blair has left, now we have few allies and lots of nukes what do you think is our next step?

Iran? look again see who is on sidelines after crying wolf and being caught in lies, even Collin Powell has backpedalled and now opposing the PNAC war mongers.

ask why the person responsible for our National Security was promoted to Secretary of State - after failing to protect us from 9/11 and she had the info that clearly said Osama was intent upon harming us...Condoleeza Rice

how can you get promoted after failing so miserably, now a candidate for President?

even Bush Jr did this, failed Texas Governor, failed oil businessman, bankrupted every account and contract but yet somehow put into power irregardless

something is wrong

I am not good with diplomacy but I am glad there are others who are. The UN is a symbol of what the world would like to see how our international issue can be worked out. The truth is very little can get done but even that little is helping. Trust me I have lived outside of the USA and a lot of scary things happen to citizens of various countries and nations. If there wasn't any where to report these things death tolls and genocides would skyrocket.

the main purpose of UN is solving international issues by diplomacy and prevention of war. so, i don't know why you say that ,"UN has done nothing concerning with Iran just talk and diplomacy. do you expect another war?
and you should know that UN is an organization based on international agreements, so only governments have this ability to help UN to achieve it's goals. yes, Israel can start attacking again, but isn't Israel a member of un? so should act according of un charter.

Seems useless. It's just a game Republicans play to pocket all the money they can while in power.
Most of the UN are suck-ups to the US who is at the present war mungers & power seekers as always when Rebublicans are in power. They have all the money so all they want is world power.
Once in a while you'll have a member like France to be brave enough to stand idle against the US in their Rebublican Party reign for world controll.

Diplomacy is the main issues of UN.you're talking like you want your way or the highway (US-Israel way).unfortunately Afghanistan-Iraq and last Lebanon-Israel war show that no bombs can do anything to regulate situations.the economy in Russia getting better and better because of these war,the same in China .look what's going in US :inflation, ship Dollar,unemployment....UN not useless, you are useless.

Oh now, give the UN some credit. They've managed to get away with supplying billions to saddam hussein via the oil for food program, then there's the sex-with-children for food program, then there's their Human Rights Council, with human-rights champions (laughing) China and Cuba seated on it.

The UN is a weak reed on which to rest any nation's foreign policy. It is a collection of states, none of which will sacrifice perceived vital national interests to, nor easily spill blood for, a majority designated good. To maximise international support, the US and its democratic allies should seek UN authorisation before intervening militarily. But to precondition UN authorisation before intervening against either demonstrably imminent threats to international peace and security, or moral abominations such as genocide and ethnic cleansing, is moral folly.

The only error the UN did is to allow the creation of the state of israel.
Israel is not a country, it is an occupation army where arabs are confined in the world greatest prison and gettoes..

If the 9/11 terrorists would have taken out the U.N. building in NYC, the world would be a better place today.
