The Wind That Shakes the Barley was a hell of a film. But then most films about that subject matter hit an emotional nerve with its intended audience. Harsh Times was pretty good, Christian Bale IS the new DeNiro. United 93 was a powerful experiance, and I'm not even from the U.S.A. ad this thing hit me hard.
All the "awards" movies are usually held off til the end of the year anyway so they're fresh in the mind of Academy Voters so the best is probably still to come.

Crank
I thought it was going to be horrible. I have seen it twice. It is GREAT. The next cult film. I put it in the same catagory as Pulp Fiction, Clockwork Orange, Rocky Horror, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Personally I think "Lucky Number Slevin" has been the most understated but pleasurable film so far this year.
