There are many advantages. For instance, let's say you decide to split up. You can take your things and go or split everything half. Thats it and you dont have to see the other person again and go through long divorce. This is better if you and your partner doesnt want to get married and dont want to have children together. I stay with my boyfriend and if he decides to leave, he can, if I decide to leave, I can - no strings attached. Also its much cheaper than getting divorced and divorces can get nasty.

It depends on how you veiw marriage. Until recently marriage was just living together and making a statement to a few friends. Then the state thought, *ohho! we can make money off of this* and marriage contracts were born.
The difference between living with someone and being married to them is all up to the people involved. Some view it as marriage already and are totally committed, others see it as the advantage of not having a messy divorce if they want to walk.

I think that it is personal preference. Personally I don't have a need for a piece of paper that tells me I have to stay with someone. In reality I think that individual circumstances count for a lot. There may be practical reasons for getting married particularly if there are issues such as pension entitlements etc if one partner dies.
The main thing is to take good advice whatever form of relationship you enter into if there are shared assets. It is easier to set things up in the first place rather than try to sort out the mess later on

There are NONE. Every idiot will tell you why it's a good idea, but statistically proven that everybody who lives together instead of getting married, or who lives together and then gets married, has a higher chance of infidelity, cheating, divorce and abuse.
Not worth it.
Statistics do not lie! People do!

In Florida for example if they live with you over 30 days everything is considered community property. Evrery state has it's own laws
One disadvantage is that usually is the excuse as to why people cheat on each other. Well, if I was married I wouldn't...yeah right.
Of course that doesnt mean all who shack up cheat.

after careful thought and knowing i live with my partner, have two children..and we are not married..i would say onestly that i do not think there is any difference..weather you are married or not married the same things apply ..like trust, respect, and working at a relationship..i still think of as a commitment..and it is weather it is on paper or not.

Less expense... you don't have to pay to get married (ring, dress, flowers, venue) and then pay again to get divorced (solicitor, buying new house, maintenence)...
That's just my point of view, but then I am a self sufficient woman with my own home and a good job, who doesn't want to lose my cash, my last name or my independence to any man!

It is a lot easier and cheaper to split up if things don't work out than if you are married.
