Henry the VII was actually the first Tudor king. In 1485, he usurped the monarchy from Richard III, the last of the Plantagenet kings. He is believed to have Richard III murdered in the Tower. His son, Henry VIII inherited his crown, and then Henry VIII's surviving children all had their shot: Edward VI, Mary I, and finally Elizabeth I. She died in 1603 without any children, and so her cousin (a couple of times removed) James of Scotland became James I of England, thereby ending the Tudor dynasty and beginning the Stuart dynasty.

The Tudor period began with the reign of Henery the 8th in.....c. 1520's or 30's. When he died in 1547, his 8-year old son Edward took the throne. He died of the flu @ age 12 and was succeeded by the oldest daughter, Mary whose mother had been Henery's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. She died of possibly cancer at 40 in...1557 (??) and Elizabeth assended the throne still in her early 20s. She died in 1602.
