I've relocated a couple of times for work, and I've loved it every time. Find some nice friendly people at work and get them to show you round Exeter. People will enjoy sharing their knowledge of their home town and you'll soon make friends that way. Plus, your friends from home will want to visit you because Exeter's great. Definitely go for it!

i think the best thing you can do is to join some kind of group. i moved last year and as i dance (jive) i found out where the nearest venue was and went. if you don't dance find your nearest and go. The nice thing about it is although you get a few couples you also get a lot of single people it's the only place i've been where you get to dance with loads of people, you don't feel embarrassed because your on your own, people make you very welcome and you have a chance to meet new friend of both sexes, plus it keeps you fit. good luck and don't be shy hunt out a dance venue, i did it and i'm 50 and single .

Five suggestions for meeting people when moving to a new area):
1. Read the noticeboards in places like sports centres, supermarkets and stuff to find out info about local clubs and join something. At least you'll meet people you have one thing in common with.
2. Check out you local volunteer centre for their opportunities as volunteering is a good way to meet different people.
3. Someone I met through work started her own unofficial club - everyone she met, she'd ask if they werre interested in cooking and if they wanted to take a culinary tour through the alphabet. Everyone would meet up once a week and takes turns to cook food from different countries (e.g. A for America, B for Bali, C for China etc.) It was good fun and a nice way to meet people and try different food.
4. If there's anything you've always wanted to learn, find out about taking a class in it. You'll meet people and if you like it you'll learn something new. If you don't like it, you can sit around and natter about something else.
5. Just smile a lot. People talk to you if you look friendly.

There is no particular way of meeting new buddies. when I first moved, I was lucky to live next to the coolest neighbours on the planet. You can find friends anywhere. All depends on what kind of person 'you' are.

Well if you want to get to know some people, you could bring up topics like. Weather, Football, Basketball, Then you might be able to ask them for their name. Talk to some people about where your from. You could try telling them about your life, and ask them about there life.
If there are any dances or other things like that you could go to those & get to know people that way.
Hope this helps.
