What are the contributing factors which allow us to become who we are?

First, we are our parents' children. We are taught our most primal understanding of life by those who care for us from our beginning.
Second, we are products of our environment. We are taught by our neighbors and friends how to relate to one another.
Third, we are naturally curious creatures. We seek knowledge and understanding of our existence and purpose.
Fourth, we are influenced by our Maker to come into a relationship with Him.

All our behavior is established in patterns. So the first patterns are set by instinct, sucking, breathing, crying. After that is social influence as listed above. Finally, we have the ability to choose to change those patterns of behavior based on what we learn and desire. The deeper or earlier those patterns were established, the more difficult to change them, and sometimes the more necessary it is to change them.
