Then your estate will go to your next of kin - if none, it goes to the Crown!!!!

Then the state takes over and decides who gets what and who has custody of your children.
If there is only one person who would inherit your estate, such as wife or one child, then everything would go straight to them. If you have more than one child and no wife your estate would be divided equally among them. That's if it's a simple estate without too much money and complicated investments.
If your estate is complicated a lot of it will go to attorneys who handle the paperwork.
If your estate is complicated or has lots of money PLEASE go to an attorney and draw up a will or some other inheritance paperwork so your death doesn't destroy your family because of the fighting over who gets what.

The government get's a cut. Some of it goes to your next of kin. But you'd be suprised how many people think it will all go to them. But a lot of it goes to the government. I would suggest writing one.

You will die 'intestate' - your official 'next of kin' (not your choice necessarity, but your nearest blood relative, or a spouse if you are married) will get your estate. It would cause a lot of pain for your family so whoever you are, however much or little you own, you should make a will - it is really important.

you possessions and debts go to your next of kin. i believe the fed govt may get more taxes from it if you don't have a will.

And I think it may also vary some state to state.

Legally and personally, it is a mess if you die without a will.

Your goods will be shared according to law between your relatives, and if you don't have relatives at all (orphan, without any blood or law connection, which is rare) they will be given to the state.

If you die and you don't have a will your estate will be distributed according to the law of the jurisdiction where you reside.

In essence, if you don't have a will the state will provide one for you.
