The company could'nt give a delivery time so just have to wait in. Does anybody else find this frustrating or am I just impatient? I had to take the day off work too.

Delivery drivers are never certain how long it may take to unload deliveries on a route, ahead of you.

With cell phones in common use, stores should instruct drivers to call customers periodically to inform them of their ETA.

I'll never understand management with so little concern for customer service.

Its very annoying but you can get this right by making a mutually convenient time. We had a similar problem and asked them which days were available to them to deliver & an approximate time-window (mornings 8am to 1pm or afternoons 1pm to 6pm or evenings 6pm to 9pm).

None of these were available for our settee as it was coming half way through the UK by lorry, so we were given a day but no time window. The driver was delivering settees all over the UK, about 10 households at a time and working through the country!

Annoying but at least it was definite that he would arrive on this particular day, we were not told that the lorry had broken down and he had to wait for repairs etc, so we waited for the settee, receiving a call at 8pm to say he would not come .......... but could come the next day.

The lorry broke down, as we found out at lunch time and we were not informed until 6 hours later! We were lucky cause we took it in turns at waiting in, but the nuisance was that we both lost out on paid work. The good part was we were both occupied doing other work that is not done when two people are busy working all day, spent time with the kids, did some gardening chores, cleared out cupboards, wrote letters & sent postcards, and generally had a DIFFERENT DAY.

So not all is lost, get a hobby started (I started to learn a foreign language course), did a lot of reading and writing, not all of the time was wasted!

Its only a day or two in our lives when occasionally things are not going according to plan, but why not? And of course the settee did arrive and it was all worth it. That was 11 years ago, the settee is just what we wanted and we still have it, still looks great.

And the waiting around? We didnt wait around, we found things to do and spend the two days doing lots of things we would not normally have done. Plan you day, every day but sometimes its not too bad if you go off the rails and do something different, is it?

After all, it is YOUR furniture that you are waiting for, so find something to do to occupy yourself. Good luck

Unfortunately they cannot give you a delivery time, although they should offer a morning or an afternoon slot. That way you could take half a day off work and not lose much money..

Yes it is very frustrating when you are having to wait in but thats just how it is..

I find it incredibly frustrating too. Food delivery companies (and others) seem to manage perfectly well - so why can't furniture deliveries.
I have lost count ofthe number of days I have taken off work waiting for a delivery company that does not show up!! Trading standards anyone??

Yes, I know, it sucks.

Normally they will give you a morning (which is from about 7 - 12) or and afternoon (which is from about 12 - 6). Either way though, you have to take the day off.

Why can't you just give them your mobile number and get them to call you an hour or so before they arrive...

I hire a sitter for $20. They come to your house. They do their homework and put their lunch in your fridge. They stay and accept delivery. When it comes they lock your door on the way out. It works perfectly!

You need to be the one to set the parameters! You TELL them when you will be available to accept delivery. If you use your backbone, they will comply, since they want your business, dont cave in to them, you dont have to. You have the power since you have the money!
