I think when a person gets a pet, they take responsiblity for its well-being and safety. Just as if it were one of the kids. If one is not prepared to do this, then do everyone a favor, and leave the animal for someone who will love, protect, and respect it!! I

yes and no. I wouldnt spend that much on animals, probably because I cant afford it. But I do know people personally who think their dog is a kid and spend all the money necessary to make the dog happy or fix any problems I have seen them spend more on the dog then i do for myself so in cases like that I say yes some people spend way too much money on pets

Animals are dependants...perhaps not just like children but when you take on a pet there will be bills associated with owning that pet. Owning a pet then crying about the vet bills is infuriating, if you can't afford it don't buy it; animals aren't inanimate objects they will get ill and require veterinary attention at some time in their lives.
What is too much...I guess it depends on how much you make! Unlike with humans you can euthanize an animal that you either can't afford or that is terminally ill. However for those who fix their pets by euthanizing them, you should buy a stuffed animal instead. Kind of like abortion as birth control...
For me...I work in the industry so I can afford my pets, I love them to bits, they enrich my life and I fix them no matter what, the only thing that gets in the way of my animals being put right is quality of life...if they are going to suffer I would rather see them humanely destroyed.

No, I don't think people spend too much on the pets they love, in fact, many don't spend enough. Try to remember that pets often are the only true friends and companions some people have, especially the handicapped and elderly. They become much more than mere pets, but literal family to many of us. A sweet dog and cat graciously agreed to adopt my husband and myself and now that our human are children are grown, they are our babies, just like with our human kids, they are spoiled, pampered and dearly loved.

No. They didn't ask for you or anyone else to take on the responsibility for them. So if you have an animal you are responsible for all of their needs, just like children, they totally depend on you. So spend money out the wazoo on them. If you can not afford or do not want to spend money on them then do not get an animal.

.
If you are referring to the cost of purchasing the pet, such as a purebred dog, then yes. However, I am thinking of doing the same in order to get a poodle next year because my son and I are allergic to dogs, but they say poodles are best for allergy sufferers, and we have had no problems around my mom's poodle. Those seem to be around $550, but there are dogs costing hundreds more than that. It's crazy.

That depends if you consider a pet a member of the family. There are some extremes, when they get involved with surgery and chemo etc... on a pet.

No because it is an individual's right in what they enjoy. My sister spends way beyond her means for treat and toys for her dogs, and although I wouldn't put myself in debt for that sort of thing with my animals, it is what she wants to do.
Because we love our animals there are alot of things that we give up when our bills are too high for a month so that we can take of our animals. They are part of our family.

Nope... Pets are expensive, true, but if you really love them... well, you cannot put a price limit on that

no, it is not too much. Animals bring unconditional love and unmitigated joy to many people and that is priceless.
