In order to keep the upper moral ground and be able to engage in world affairs without being accused of hypocrisy, the authorities try to keep within the limits of international law in the treatment of detainees.
If proved to be terrorists they deserve the fullest punishment of the law. No one sympathises with such hateful people.
However any precautions taken are for the sake of the innocent few who may have been caught up in the situation and deserve to be treated fairly.

I do care. I care that we are treating them like human beings and they are not. They are animals and should be treated like the mad dogs they are. I could give a sh-- less about the Koran. As far as I am concerned it is a useless piece of propaganda. Now I know that this will probably cause them to demonstrate and swear to kill infidels. They are doing that anyway and the only to stop them is extermination.

We care about that because it is common respect. We also would like to be treated with respect and therefore we have to show the same respect to others. It is called being civilized.
Of course we could fall back to roman times or the age of the first millennium where barbarism was the flavor of the times, but that is not an option, or is it?
If we want to be able to demand respect, we have to show it.

because the more peole we piss off, the more people will try to kill our troops, because the worse we act the less of the moral high ground is ours, becuase we are supposedly we are fighting for liberty and the rule of just law, which we can't defend by violating, and because the worse we act, the more likely insurgents and terrorists will treat any of our people inhumanely (torture and other fun stuff)

I think that these terrorists have no rights under the Geneva convention. The rules of war dictate that like spys, terrorists have no rights. Let them rot in the swamps of the Carolinas. If you live by the sword you will die by it.

I agree. They behave worse than animals when they bomb and behead then they start crying about their rights. How do they respect the rights of others? What about the rights of their own women? They are beneath contempt.
