well they are the same, but the term make up is used more for theatre, film and all that crap.

Makeup is the exact same thing as cosmetics. They're synonyms, but people who are trying to sound more affluent use the word "cosmetics".

I don't think there is one, really, except that 'cosmetics' might be a slightly broader term. You typically find lotions and stuff in the cosmetics section of the store.

One starts with a 'C' the other with 'M'. other than that nothing, they are both the same. What is the difference between Man and Male? just a different name for the same thing.
