Some are changing hands, like the golden peacock throne. Some must still be in the possession of the descendants of the original owners, who acquired either by force or as an ill-gotten wealth. Some could be in the treasury of the present governments, as the legal successor of the past rulers. There is still a possibility that some of them, which were kept hidden under the earth, by some jealous royal persons, for fear of being lost in the hands of the enemies, are permanently lost, and remain buried without any body knowing it. Many who dig wells and pits for laying foundation for a construction, come accross many such treasures.

We don't really know about any of this.. such stories have been passed around by failed explorers who wanted to pass off as the real thing.. so they said that they were bringing a fortune of goods to their king/queen as a proof of their discoveries but that it was looted by pirates etc., and people believed them
