Im at college doing an exercise, what would be the best way of making a bridge using only paper, cellotape and string?

If you are allowed to I would coat everything with the tape it will make it stronger. The guy before me has the right idea about the pylons but as I said wrap them in the tape. For the "road" bed I would use a sheet of tape covered paper accordion pleated tape covered in the center then another sheet of tape covered on the top.Poke holes and sew the sheets together .

I reckon you need to fold or roll the paper to make it stabile, a sheet of paper is only strong in one direction but of you fold it into a box or roll it into a tube it will become a lot stronger.
You could make pylons (posts) out of rolled paper and attach string to them and make a suspension bridge, the sections that is the "road surface" would have to be folded or corrugated (like a cardboard box) to be strong.
