What do you do about a runtime error message on a computer that is not online?

My daughter's computer is not online, but she when she's playing a game, a runtime error message keeps popping up? What can she do about it?

Runtime Error is a generic term saying that there is a programmatic error that manifested itself only when a program is running in front of user.

In the case of gaming, it is likely DirectX at fault and reinstall DirectX should be enough to fix that. But there are so many points-of-failure that could be, you need to specify.
