Don't be upset. You're not alone. Many people have the same difficulty. The best advice is to take a Career Inventory Test, which matches your interests and personality traits with the best career options. Here's a link for you.

I had a friend in college that said college was great except the problem was that you might fall into a career.

OK--but the thing is that in many cases this is what happens--and try not to sweat it. The old idea of a liberal arts education may no longer be in vogue--but I think it should be--you should go to college to become generally educated and you will eventually find your path--and it may be something you have never even heard of.

There are people who know instantly what their goal is--to become a doctor--a beautician--whatever. And these people go to college, a professional school, a business school ,etc. with the sole goal of getting into the profession they have their eyes on. That is great if it works for them. However, I think our society has put to much emphasis on the early pick career path.

You are certainly not in the latter category. I would concntrate on learning and exposing yourself to a variety of expereinces.

what is it that you enjoy doing? whether it be drawing, clothes, fashion, designing, writing, math, whatever was your favorite subject in school you should pretty much go for for a career. your interest. is usually what you would focus on. you are young and have plenty of time to change it while you try something and it doesnt work for you and you decide something else. first thing you want to do is get into a community college and just take regular courses. speak with the guidance counselor they can pretty much direct you in the right direction. do you like helping people than you are looking in the medical field, do you like office work than you are looking in a wide variety of fields, do you want to open your own business get into business management. do you like computers you will never know until you do something

So many people go through this. I did. I took the stupid career inventory test and it came up with things that I had no interest in whatsoever. I took an actual class in college that was supposed to help determine my best career path. It didn't help me at all.

I started out as a business major. I then changed to elementary education. Then I switched to journalism and got a degree and became a reporter. I worked as a reporter for a year before realizing I hated it. I went back to school to complete my teaching degree only to get a job in the school system and realize I hated that too. I'm now 31 and my passion is nutrition. I have taken classes but do not have a degree in nutrition but I've been able to turn my interest into a home business. BUT as I've gotten older I've discovered I have an interest in many things I never considered when I was younger. I love science and physics. I started as a business major but didn't really care about it but now I know I have a really good head for business.

I think that for many people it takes life experience to really understand where your passion lies. Sure, there are many people who seem to know what they want and they get their degrees and move on. Don't envy them! I went to school for journalism and teaching. I'm now working in nutrition. One of my cousins went to school to be an art teacher. She now works at Target. My other cousin went to school for marketing. She also now works at Target. They both work upper management jobs but still...did they really know what they wanted when they went to school. No.

I wouldn't stress over it. Live life. Try many things. Your passion will come to you in time. Don't be in a hurry and don't settle.

Good luck!
