Can you take the Bart directly from the Oakland airport? And what about going to a Bart station then take a cable car to Mason and Lombard?

You should be aware that BART does not go out of OAK. You have to take a shuttle from the airport to the nearest BART station, which I believe is the Coliseum station. If you will be lugging a lot of luggage getting to your destination from OAK will be a chore.

BART does go into SFO however. If you have a choice, go into SFO and take BART into the city. You will still have a substantial walk to get to North Beach from Montgomery or Embarcadero BART station.

Its 3.35 one way for Bart and you would have to walk about a mile and a half from the station to the place you want to go.

Bart and walking is the cheapest way to go. You can also take Bart and a cab or take Bart and SF public transportation.

shuttle bus is 12 min ride from airport to BART; i believe $1.50 or $2.00
look up exact prices & times at www.bart.gov
it's the cheapest way, unless you have a friend who will drive you. however, it's probably the fastest
