Depending on the year and engine size of your car , you might only need a small section of exhaust to be replaced to sort out your problem , go to a mechanic you can trust to have it checked , there is a common piece that goes on these cars just in front of the cat , it's a link pipe between the down pipe and the cat and costs between £15 and £25 depending on where you go and takes about 20 minutes to fit , hope this helps

It sounds like the hanger has snapped.
Whether it can be fixed or not depends on whether the hanger snapped cleanly off its original weld, or whether it took part of the exhaust with it. If the exhaust is not blowing at that point, then it should be possible to clean it up and weld on a new hanger, but if not, then you're looking at a new exhaust.

If exhaust has gone, get it renewed ASAP. It will save you money in the long run. It can be welded but it will not last long as the metal will have deteriorated. If you tie it up with bits of wire ( as some suggest ) you will find that you will have less power and your fuel consumption will increase significantly.

i really would replace it, i don't reccomend having it welded up. if in the uk give a few garages a call for a quote on the exhaust you may only need the front section

It can be welded as long as there is enough clean pipe to weld to.
Most exhausts are not too expensive but if you need the cat too then it begins to get pricey.
