Mother lode in mining means the main deposit. Very rich vein of ore or gold/silver. When you find the mother lode you'll get more out with less effort. This phrase must mean something like finding the best source of data you are looking for.

think of it this way. You have little "datas" (the children) and the MOther Lode is (the mama) so if someone is giving you the mother lode of data, that means your getting it all and more!
