I've made thousands of bibs for the hospital nurseries.
The nurses and experienced mothers all said: Terry cloth for the front, plain cotten fabric for the back, and with ties, not Velcro...AND with a pocket, especially for the older babies in the high chairs trying to feed themselves....the pockets catch most of what falls !

To keep your life simple go with Velcro not ties. The darker the colour the better!!
Plastic ones are good, but I find that they're kinda stiff and the pockets don't catch anything because the highchair tray covers them. They're sort of uncomfortable around the baby's neck and my baby at least gets distracted and is always trying to play with the different fabric.
After spending all my time trying to get stains out of all the pretty white bibs I'd got (or been given as gifts) I finally bought 10 black bibs on ebay and ironed ice cream appliques on them to brighten them up. They always look good with minimal care and it's sure made my life easier! Now I'm not hunting around for a decent bib when we go out visiting.

To start with bibs which can absorb a bit of fluid are good. When the real weaning starts get big ones with arms in them and waterproof backing....and a dribble bibble (plastic with the big lip - excellent for getting all those bits they miss). Never understood the bibs with pockets??? what you gonna put in the pockets?? Have fun, stand back and get the camera ready.

Terry cloth. I would go with the velcro closures instead of ties, I was aways to paranoid to use ties. They make them with a "head hole" you can just slip over the baby's head like a shirt, that is the BEST type of bib in the world. Literally.

use terry cloth for the front and buy some cheap plastic bibs and use for the back of the bib.....this keep the baby dry if anything shall go through .....use ties instead of velcore becasue then he or she cannot pull it off....... and pockets in the front help catch more food

anything that's very absorbent and soft so as not to irritate the baby's skin when its wet and bibs without pockets are better also bibs with no bits to tie are better and easier to put on and take off

I used a mesh laundry bag to wash velcro bibs in...and also began buying bibs with snaps or ties versus velcro closures. Even better are the ones that have a t-shirt-like neck; my son was more comfortable in these, and he couldn't pull them off when he got older.

Terry towling is best for baby bibs and i don't think it matters if they have a pocket or not.
