Physical exercise, relaxation techniques such as yoga, funny movies and TV shows, talking to a therapist, and taking medications such as Paxil are the most effective cures.

I know how you feel so here's a little advice I have learned.

There are natural ways to ease your depression:
Exercise can help raise your endorphines (a hormone in the brain) and it will make you feel better. Try to eat your fruits and veg, stay away from alcohol (if you drink), and make sure you sleep your normal amount. Oversleeping can cause even worse depression. You should also try to get some sunshine or go tanning and take your vitamins. Sunshine increases your vitamin D absorption and has been known to improve moods.

But most importantly you should seek some therapy. I know it can be expensive but if you talk to your doctor, they may be able to refer you to a therapist under your medical insurance (wherever you live). Here in England and in Canada there is national health insurance which will cover those sessions that have been refered by your doctor. In America your insurance may cover therapist visits under referal of your doctor too. Check into it.

A word of caution, if you don't want drugs for your depression, many doctors will try to give you a prescription, I would suggest that you request therapy instead of a prescription as your depression does not seem chemical or chronic. (ie. It doesn't sound like it's normal for you to be depressed.) Anti-depressant drugs should only be used as a last resort. You can request therapy if you wish and the health professionals are obligated to keep all of that in confidence so your spouse will not know.

I hope that helps - I have been through some very depressing times in life and all of the above have helped me at various points.

All the best - you will come through it ok - remember it's only temporary. You'll come out the other side a stronger person, no matter what the outcome.

There are a lot of way to help your depression. I've experience depression since high school, 24 now. I tried medication, and it helped the symptoms but not the problem. My advice (and i'm not professional here! take with a grain of salt!) is to see a therapist. Even if your in a financial bind, there are places you can go where you can get help. Your mental health is more important. Then start making a list of things you think are a problem and try to list out way to fix them. Also, make a list of things that make you happy. I also found that getting active and a proper diet helps out A LOT! Once I got this down, I kicked my meds to the crub and haven't been on them for two years now. I hope this helps a little a good luck!

Hi hon. :) In my doctor's office, there is a sign on the wall that says, "Trying to talk yourself out of depression is like trying to talk yourself out of a heart attack."

In other words, depression is NOT something that you can just "snap out of" or control on your own. It's not something that you can talk yourself out of, or work your way out of, through your own efforts. If you could do that, then I'm sure you would have done that by now!

One of the major signs of depression is losing energy and interest in daily activities....and the fact that you don't have the energy to do anything but sleep right now worries me.

Please make an appointment with your doctor or a counselor so that you can get the help you need. Depression is nothing to be ashamed of...it is an illness, and when you are ill, you need to go to a professional and find out how to make things better. :)

There are also many crisis hotlines that you can call if you need someone to talk to....I recommend the HopeLine: 1-800-394-HOPE.

Please take care of yourself, dear. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

The quickest fix for a depression is to alter your perspective.

But try occupying your mind with a book. Books are a great escape from the real world. The more you enjoy the book, the more you'll find that you forget your problems.

Of course, the problems will still be there, but when you just need a pick-me-up, try immersing yourself in a book.

Really, you just need to occupy your thoughts with things that don't make you feel bad.

I know what you mean though.

Healing Clay - Healing Earth
Clay is renowned to have many uses in promoting health in plants, animals and humans. Bentonite, Montmorillonite, Pascalite, as well as other types of healing clays, have been used by indigenous cultures since before recorded history. Studies show that the use of volcanic ash clay internally goes back to the Indians of the high Andes mountains, tribes in Central Africa and the aborigines of Australia. Taken internally, it supports the intestinal system in the elimination of toxins. The application of clay has achieved miraculous healing of Buruli Ulcer - mycobacterium ulcerans which is similar to leprosy and tuberculosis mycobacterium or flesh eating disease. more --- (in French)

It's all related to sleep actually, you need to get to bed at the right time, and revive early mornings when you will be more optimistic.

Don't sit around at night watching TV, hell just dump your TV it'll just make things worse.

Try go out walking in the mornings and read a book instead of the paper.
