This is my first ticket in 15 years. The road conditions were good, traffic was light and I was in the fast lane. We were in a hurry because I was trying to get my wife to a seminar in time.

they are supposed to give you a pamphlet that has a list of fine amounts for each range of speeding. 10 over ought to be something like $150.

you might consider fighting it if this is your second ticket in 2 years because insurance companies love to rape speeders.

ive gotten 3 speeding tickets and 2 of them were within a week of each other this year. If you dont want to hire a lawyer and spend the extra 200-300 bucks just for lawyer fee. Simply plead not guilty and go to court to trial. Typically when i first get into the court room, before the judge gets there the prosecuting attny will talk to you and ask if you are ready for trial, and tell them you were hoping to talk to the prosecuting attny and see about keeping it off your record. Typically if you have not had any tickets within a few years, they will allow you to plead guilty to a non-moving violation for the price of double the fine. So if the fine was $150 i will be $300. But it will not be on your driving record and you will not have had to hire a lawyer on top the $300 becuase that is the same thing the lawyer will do.

I think it depends on the situation. Was there a lot of traffic? Was it rush hour? Was there construction going on or an accident? You could try and fight it - I got a parking ticket in California. I fought it and won and I didn't have to pay, but that's not a moving violation like yours. For a speeding ticket you may have to take the officer to court in order to contest it. If the situation you were in seems in your favor, like it was a lonely road and you were the only one driving on it on a clear day, you could fight it. The fine is going to be a hefty one, though.

The fine will be in the $150 to $180 range. If you fight it and lose, and you will lose, you will not have the chance to go to traffic school. Many Cal counties allow on-line traffic school.
