most people misunderstand the concept of fengshui. fengshui is really a compilation of many theories regarding how to make your life easier, meaning cheat your destiny and have a good life. most western people simplifies it as a interior designer's tool. it is not as simple as most people think.
most important of all is form (or space on earth, meaning where your home/ office is located, and what is its environment), then you have the time element (for this, fengshui can act as a tool for prediction).
because the house has a door, which is really how the house connect to the outside world. thus, the fortune or energy of the house is based on the degree of the main door (not the main gate). if you divide the lot/ house into 3 rows and 3 columns. you can calculate the energy/ chi combinations for every box for all 9 boxes (like a tic tac toe grid) (flying stars theory).
next is get your kua based on your birthday (8 mansions theory). arrange the stairs, different rooms and doors according to these 2 basic theories. when done right, both theories can make your life happy, prosperous and healthy.
this is true authentic chinese fengshui, not the blackhat crap.
fengshui is basically you assess the situation, calculate how to solve it, solve it and then get on with your life. you do not need to get obssessed by it, or keep on believing in it.
it is much like hocus pocus to the untrained person. but it is really very simple.
to fengshui or not to fengshui? if you know that there is a hole in the middle of your living room under your carpet, because you got x-ray vision for eyes, would you patch it? or carry on with life as if there is no hole there. fengshui can predict the future or what might happen. and you can manipulate your life accordingly.

Definately not! You cannot base your life on this, it will complicate things. You need to just go with the flow, let life take you where you have potential to go.
