I just bought a used computer and it died in 5 min. I have flashing light on monitor. I have tried monitor on another computer so it works. Motherboard has the video output jack, However i have changed AGP and PCI Video cards with the same results. I checked the 5 and 12 volts coming out of the power supply. They are OK. What is problem?

Do you get a series of beeps when it boots up? Those beeps are known as beep codes and can help tell you what's causing the problem. You just have to know what brand of BIOS you have which you should be able to see by looking at the motherboard. You can google for beep codes. Here's one site that came up: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm .

If no beeps, the machine truly died, if has beeps, something is OK, but video is not, I have onboard video too but I get an AGP card in there is no such problem, although there is a setup option somewhere in BIOS to say to use onboard or AGP or PCI card.

Beeping is the first thing you should check.

the onboard video may be dead and when you plug in the other card the 2 may be causing a conflict. when you install the vid card does it even try to boot up? if not you can go to some of the better computer store and get an item called a soyo techaid it's a card to plug into a pci slot for diagnostics of computer with that you should be able to find the problem.

If you transported your computer reseat your memory modules. They could be loose. Also check to see if the fans are running on your proccessor. Some motherboards will not turn on if a fan is unplugged or has failed.

Did you get the system disk with his puter? If so load it in safe mode and do a total reformat.
