Its not that the Post Persons are getting lazy far from it, They have bounds to work in, And guess what Its down to How Many £££££££s can the company save. and the poor old postie gets the blame. Lets have it right even in the post offices now they are doing away with things that they were built for. TV licence gone trying to get rid of Vehicle licences.Pensions -trying to get then onto swipe cards. People in this country are fed up being told where you can do your shopping. Try ringing up to complain and you finish up in India where they use cheep labour.

What this country needs is the services we used to have, Post 2 deliveries a day one on Saturday
A post office where you can get what you want. Now they have put the price of stamps up. Why so we get a poorer service

I dont know if you are aware of this, but due to a big shake up in the British postal system (introduced about a year ago) Postmen are each doing almost double the amount of post that they used to. This is obviously a cost saving exercise, but unfortunatley I have noticed a drop in standards too.

You are right, they are taking alot longer to deliver the mail, and it is often not sorted through properly. We keep on getting the wrong mail put through our door.

However I think we are wrong to be blaming the overworked Postmen, it is this stupid new system that is putting too much strain on them.

HELLLLLLLL YESSSSS!!!! It tooke me 10 weeks to get a package that was returned to sender. That's pathetic. I went to the post office after I mailed something to a wrong address and they said that they would get it out the mail box and call me. Well...no call. 2 days later they call and tell me that I must not have mailed it out that day because they did not find it. Huh??? Now you're telling me what I've done? Those lazy bastards never even checked that damn box they just made up some crappy excuse so that they wouldn't have to work. I can't stand them. I used to get mail from anywhere in the country within 2-3 days. Now I'm LUCKY if I get it in 5. they can't blame it on increased volume of mail because e-mail has phased out letters. Online catelogs have phased out paper orders. What the hell do they do all day besides take lunch breaks when there are 20 people in line and argue with you about YOUR stuff?

The postmen round my way are definately lazy

I can see them getting dropped off by a van at the end of my road. They then get the mail out of the box that's there and spend 30-45 minutes sitting on a short wall flicking through it. They can multitask though, as they spend most of that time chatting to the people who are walking their dogs, or going for their paper.

Eventually they will head of to actually deliver the mail, starting at Number 1 and doing all the odd numbers first, before returning back up the other side of the street to do the even numbers. We live at Number 4 so we're the second last house to get ther mail on our street. Thee are 78 houses in total and it takes him approximately 2 hours to complete the street! That's once he starts walking!

So from arriving at the street to completing his deliveries can take him on average 2½ hours. That's almost 2 minutes per house assuming that every house gets mail. I honestly don't think it should take more than 30 seconds per house.

Amazingly enough, it doesn't take him very long in wet weather. Probably 1 hour from getting out of the van to completeing the street. Obviously there's not as many people around willing to stop and chat in wet weather.

When he completes our street, he goes back to his box and gets more mail out for the next street and the whole process starts again.

So, in answer to your question "Do you think postmen are getting lazy?" - YES!

The Post Office now seem to do this activity called "Walk-Sort" which means expecting postmen to do 2 things at once. This is a typical Managers ploy. Many people suspect that postmen are overworked and this can lead to them sometimes "accidentally"posting letters for a nearby house in with a letter for the intended house.

My postman isn't lazy as such, He comes anywhere between 9 and 12.30 and guaranteed we get 4 different types of junk mail. We in the SW have also just experienced a post strike so we're way behind with post anyway

Sigh.

That's not the postmen being lazy, that's more likely to be a reorganisation of either the runs themselves or the local post office depo.

Don't be so quick to have a go.

I once asked our (ex ) postie what time he started work and he said half 5 in the morning, I then asked why I didn't get my mail until 12:45 in the afternoon to which he just laughed and my mail mysteriously vanished for a week! So my ex postie was not only idle but spiteful too!

And as for waiting for all the mail because they did away with a second post..................we never got one to begin with!

posties are not getting lazy. the postal service changed how it works so people only get 1 delivery of mail per day. so instead of getting your 1st delivery of mail before lunch time and your 2nd delivery of mail after lunch you now only get 1 delivery. which means that it can be anytime between about 6am to 5pm as they have to do the post in rounds it depends on where they start in relation to where you live as to what time you get you post.
