pay attention to how they behave to other people, if they are emotionally healthy, they will be kind, but with healthy boundaries, these people are most likely safe to allow access to your heart.

The simple answer is: Stay out of them. Even if you have crush on that person, you can keep it in control, as long as you're not sure that this is the person for you. That way, you save yourself the trouble of getting a broken heart. It can be painful really.
Remember Golden Rule: In matters of romance, don't give more importance to a person than that person gives you!!!!!!!

Its not easy...but understand that NO ONE is worth your tears! One who can break your heart obviously does not care for you, so...how can you waste something so precious on that person. Besides, it would only add to his/her pleasure!! So its not a wall to keep everyone out but only a door to filter entry OK.

You can't. All you can do is learn from your mistakes. If a relationship feels like it is going south then get out of it. Also, Go Slow!! Why take a relationship fast? That will only end in sorrow. If the person is in to you then they will take it at the same speed.

Stay away from the wrong people.
You should know what the signs are for a person that you don't like...
So as soon as you see them nip it off right there and don't go back...

It's tough to do, eventually it just takes you longer and longer to fall for someone, so it's less likely that they'll break your heart.

that's a difficult thing to do... how can we know if the person is Mr. right or not? sometimes, we have to feel pain to realize what really love is.
