It is not your problem. It is the problem with Microsoft windows. Almost every windows user is facing this.
But you dont really need to restart your pc once the explorer got closed.
follow these steps to bring it up once the explorer got crashed.
1.press ctrl+alt+delete and open task manager
2.Go to File tab and click on new task
3.Type explorer.exe and press enter to bring up the explorer back.

you need to provide more detailed information about the error message you get (there's more to it if you click on "details")
anyway, you don't necessarily have to reboot your computer...you can do ALT CTRL DEL to get the Task Manager. when you do, click on File...New Task...type "explorer.exe" (no quotes)...click on "ok" and you'll get your desktop back
you should do a virus scan, too, though

most likely you have a corupt file that is causing it.You could boot the computer in safe mode and try to repair it using system restore.
